What is the UAE’s Golden Visa?

The UAE’s ‘Golden visa’ is a long-term residence visa offering a range of advantages for eligible foreigners, including:

Understanding the Eligibility Criteria for UAE’s Golden Visa Program

Investors in Public Investments

Investors in public investments can obtain a 10-year Golden Visa without a sponsor subject to meeting the following requirements:

  1. Submission of a letter from an investment fund accredited in the UAE confirming that the investor has a deposit of AED two million
  2. You must provide a letter from the land department of the respective emirate confirming that you own one or more properties valued at a minimum of 2 million dirhams.
  3. You must purchase a property using a loan from specific local banks approved by the competent local entity.
  4. Submission of a valid commercial or industrial license with a memorandum of association stating that the investor’s capital is not less than AED two million or
  5. Submission of a letter from the Federal Tax Authority confirming that the investor pays the government no less than AED 250,000 annually. In addition to the above, the investor must:
  6. Own the invested capital entirely, without any loans and
  7. Provide proof of medical insurance for themselves and their family (if applicable).

Real Estate Investors

If you own property or a group of properties, you may be eligible for a Golden visa for a 5-year period, which is renewable subject to the same conditions and without a sponsor. The following requirements must be met:

Outstanding Students

High School Students

High school students who are national-level toppers with a minimum grade of 95 per cent in public or private secondary school may be eligible for a Golden visa for five years without a sponsor.
To apply, they must submit a recommendation letter from the Ministry of Education (Emirates Schools Establishment). The duration of the Golden visa for students is five years, and it may be extended if the student enrolls in a major or college in the country that requires a study period of more than five years.

University Students

Outstanding university students may be eligible for a 10-year Golden visa without a sponsor, subject to the following conditions:

  • The university must have a rating of either A or B class by the Ministry of Education.
  • The student must provide a recommendation letter from the university, an accredited graduation certificate, or an accredited academic record indicating a cumulative GPA of not less than 3.5 for A class universities and 3.8 for B class universities.
  • The student must have graduated no more than two years prior to the application.

Foreign university students who excel in their studies may be eligible for a Golden visa valid for 10 years without a sponsor, given that the following conditions are met:

  1. The university must be among the top 100 universities worldwide, as recognized by the Ministry of Education’s rating system.
  2. The student’s cumulative grade point average (GPA) is not less than 3.5.
  3. No more than 2 years have passed since the student’s graduation.
  4. The graduation certificate is accredited by the Ministry of Education.

f you have made significant contributions in the field of humanitarian work, you may be eligible for a Golden visa that is valid for 10 years. To qualify as a pioneer of humanitarian work, you must belong to one of the following categories:

The UAE Golden Visa is a long-term 10 year residency visa. Key benefits are the ability to stay in UAE without a sponsor, own properties/cars, access educational & health facilities etc.

There are three types – General investor visa, Real estate investor visa, Entrepreneur/Talented professionals visa. There are also Golden Visas for outstanding students and frontline pandemic workers.

Broad eligibility criteria include – investing in UAE real estate, establishing/participating in a UAE company, having specialized talents, demonstrating exceptional academic performance etc.

The UAE Golden Visa is valid for 10 years from date of issuance. It is automatically renewed provided holders stay within UAE for at least 6 months in a year.

Documents like passport copies, photographs, proof of eligibility criteria (eg property title deed, company ownership document, educational certificate etc) are required.
